Snakes!

Off we went to the Reptile Show today. Sebastien (and Joe) had been waiting all week to go. Uncle Tim and The Woods family went with us on our great hunt for the perfect snakes to add to our family. Sebastien and Nicholas had fun getting their pictures taken with an alligator and looking at all the lizards, snakes, spiders and turtles. It was a great time and we only came home with two new ratsnakes!

What I learned today: Three year olds are hard to reason with.

Hola!

Sebastien has a way of making people feel good just by being in the room with them. I really believe it is a gift he has.
We went to the foot doctor (Sebastien called him Dr. Toe) today and when we got there, he looked around the waiting room , saw four grouchy looking patients (all adults) and decided he wanted to leave. As usual, you could hear a pin drop in that waiting room until we came in. Nobody looked at each other or said a word while I filled out a 100 page medical form. That is until someone said something in Spanish. Sebastien then yelled out..."He is saying Spanish". The man then asked him if he spoke Spanish and Sebastien said "yes I do". (he is taking Spanish class at school and knows about 10 words).

Well, the whole waiting room erupted in Spanish conversation. It turns out that everyone spoke Spanish and very little English. Bash ended up having a half hour Spanish lesson in the lobby. He stood in the middle of the room listening to every one of those patients. They were all so kind and patient with him. Each one of them left with a smile on their face and a kiss for Sebastien on the forehead. Bash and I were the last ones waiting for the doctor when the receptionist said to me that she has never seen Mrs. So-and -So and Mr. Rodriquez look as happy as they did today and they have been coming to the office for years.

What I learned today: Try not to hush your kids to much, you'll never know what they can learn from complete strangers. Let them stand in the middle of the waiting room.

Hello, Santa???

Usually time-outs work for Sebastien. Lately I have needed to use something new......Santa Claus. Whenever Sebastien decides not to listen, I call Santa. It is amazing how fast Bash changes his behavior when I have Santa on the phone. Last week, Sebastien asked what Santa's phone number was so I made up a random number. Yesterday he didn't like what I was telling him so he picked up the phone and used the phone number I told him last week and called Santa himself. Now that Sebastien has Santa's number and mine, I'll have to think of something new.

What I learned today: Never underestimate a child's memory.

I finally decided to start a blog. It is mainly a way for me to document Sebastien's life and record the funny things that he does and says everyday. I have never been much of a writer so my spelling will be off. I'll use the wrong sentence structure, run on sentences and bad grammar but I don't really care, this blog is just for me to put down my thoughts.

It is hard to believe that Bash (his nickname) is already three and a half years old. Time has flown by and he is growing up so fast. He started preschool two months ago, loves ice skating lessons, swimming, friends, and telling jokes. Not a day goes by that he doesn't make Joe and I laugh at the outrageous things he says. We are blessed to have such a great kid that challenges us everyday to become better parents and better human beings.

What I learned today: Popcorn and cotton candy can get you through two periods of a hockey game.
